Dear Prayer Partners,

After a lazy August and a frustrating September, October is looking to be a very busy month for our professional ministry. I'm sure you are wondering why you hadn't heard from me in almost two months. The reason was there was not much to say.  The month of August is the main vacation month and everything shuts down, including our groups.  The people just don't want to meet.  Then, in September, it's a challenge to get the groups started back up after a long lay-off.  However, praise be to God, we are off and running once again. So, hang on, there's alot of prayer requests ahead!

The Tuesday group finally met yesterday and everyone was present.  Mike announced that we would start a series of studies based on Rick Warren's book, "The Purpose Driven Life."  The ladies seem very interested in learning more about God's purpose for our lives. Please pray that each lady would grow in her Christian walk  and understand what God wants her to do with her life.

The Wednesday group has been limping along during the summer and needs a large dose of prayer.  Jose and Diana have decided it's too much effort to attend every week because of their work schedules.  Angel and Neila think the same.  Liliana is looking after her mother who is ill and can't attend every week.  Please pray that we would have wisdom in deciding how we need to change things with this group in order to have better attendance.  Pray that God would give each person the desire to attend the group and make it a priority in their very busy lives.

We are planning on starting at least two, if not three new groups.  Pray for the new Monday night group in the home of Pedro and Pamela.  We have been meeting with them since the Spring, studying the Bible together.  Last week Mike asked them if they thought other folks might be interested in studying with us.  They thought this was a great idea and were going to start inviting friends/family to come.  Pray that many people would accept and attend the first meeting on Oct. 15th.

On Thursday nights we are hoping to restart the group that met for a few weeks in the apartment of Osphyl.  She is the director of "The Language College" a English language institute located near our apartment.  Osphy is a committed believer who is dealing with alot of sickness in her family, but wants to begin meeting again Oct.4th.  Pray that the folks who previously attended would return and new ones would be added.

On Oct. 6th, we, along with our team, will be distributing booklets to every apartment in the neighborhood called Base Aragua.  This is one of the professional areas near our apartment.  The booklets talk about the need for ethics in our society, in the family and in the workplace.  The booklet contains scripture and a short Bible study on each theme.  We are including a cover letter which introduces the people to our organization, The Union of Successful Professionals and invites them to a small group where we will study this and other themes of interest to the professional.  Please pray that the distribution goes smoothly and that the people would respond to the invitation.  We plan to have the first meeting on Oct.16th.  Pray that the Lord would move in the hearts and minds of the people for them to attend the meeting.

One last prayer request: the weekend of Oct.12-14th Mike and I, along with three young people from our team here are traveling to Falcon to lead a youth retreat for the teenagers in the two churches we started in Coro and Punto Fijo.  Be in prayer for us as we lead, but also for each young person who comes to the retreat.  We are expecting around 30.  Pray for a commitment from each person to follow the Lord and grow in their faith no matter the pressures from society.

Well, I apologize for the long letter.  As you can see there is a lot going on next month.  Thanks for your prayers.  They are so important to the ministry here.

 Always, JAN
