Dear Prayer Partners,
Vacation time is here in Venezuela! As we approach the month of
August, people's minds are focused more on planning for the trip to the
beach than planning for the trip to our apartment for Bible Study.
Thus, Mike and I take this time to reflect on the first part of the year
and evaluate what worked and what didn't and start planning for the Fall
and how best to reach the professionals of Maracay.
Based on
the success we had using more of a personal outreach, we plan to
continue doing things that way. We have learned that advertising our
conferences through newspapers or posters is too impersonal and the
people don't respond. However, when we work through our team members
and ask them to promote the event personally to family members,
co-workers, neighbors and other friends, we get a much better response.
This is not a new concept, since Christ used it all the time.
However, we always seem to think we have a better way, when the truth is
that working through personal relationships is the best way.
Please
pray as Mike and I talk with our team members and begin to plan our
outreach to professionals for the next few months. We need the Lord's
wisdom and guidance for this very important work.
Please
pray also for the team from Red Lane Baptist Church in Powhatan,
Virginia who will arrive this Saturday to work with us in a VBS
in the town of Pueblo Nuevo which is close to Punto Fijo.
Our friend, Elias, the pastor of the church in Coro, has started a new
work among family members who live in that area. A Bible study has
started and we want to help spread the word to other homes using VBS as
our outreach. Pray for the team to stay healthy as we will be working
outside in hot weather. Also pray that many kids will attend and a new
mission will be born out of our efforts.
As our
groups take a break for the summer, pray that their hunger to know
God and his work would continue and we could pick back up in
September without any difficulty.
Thank you for
your continued prayers on our behalf and on behalf of the professionals
of Maracay.
Always, JAN |
