August 7 2006

Dear Prayer Partners,

I hope your summer has been going well and you have had a chance to relax before everything starts up again in September.  Here in Venezuela summer vacations are in full swing, with many professionals gone to visit family, the beach, the mountains or the US. (Miami and Orlando are favorite destinations)  Mike and I, however, are using this time to get ready for the start of new cell groups this Fall.

To that end, we have begun meeting with our new Maracay Team, consisting of five professionals who are believers.  They are all members of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church here is Maracay which Mike and I are now attending.  Please pray for Wilmer and Jahin, Jose, Javier and Winelia.  Wilmer works for AGA Gas as head of their warehouse.  His wife, Jahin, works for 3M as their Director of Sales.  Jose works for Pfizer in a management position.  Javier is a mechanical engineer and Winelia is an occupational therapist.  Right now they are being trained in how to lead a cell group so they will be ready in the Fall when we have our first conference for the professionals.  After the conference we plan to begin several small groups as we did in Coro and Punto Fijo.  Pray that these busy professionals would make this training a priority in their lives.  Pray also that they will catch the vision for starting professional churches in Maracay.

Last month we had an open house for the neighbors in our building.  We thought it would be a good way to start building relationships with them.  We had a good turnout and felt the evening was a success.  Pray as we continue to reach out to our neighbors.  All of them are professionals.

We have also been meeting with the our landlord, whose name isMaria. I mentioned her in my last prayer letter.  We have been to her apartment twice to lead studies with Maria and some of her neighbors.  Our plans are to start a weekly small group with these ladies next month when they all return from vacation.  Pray that this will become a reality.

Later this month we will once again have a team from Red Lane Baptist Church in Powhatan, Virginia coming down to help us in our ministry.  This year there will be 12 folks, a mixture of teens and adults.  Pray for this team as they come.  Their time will be divided between Maracay and Punto Fijo.  First they will be prayer walking in Maracay and then they will be leading two VBS's in Punto Fijo in support of the church there.  Pray for traveling mercies as we will be traveling between Maracay and Punto Fijo which is a 6 hour trip by bus.  Pray also that the believers in Punto Fijo have publicized well the VBS's and that many children of professionals will attend.  Pray also for the follow-up that the national believers will be doing.

Thank you again for praying for our visas. With the renewal we received we can now stay in the country for another year.  On top of that, we were able to travel to Quito, Ecuador for our annual mission meeting.  It is always an uplifting experience to worship, fellowship and just relax with other missionaries that we don't get a chance to see very often.

I am excited to announce that our new website about our ministry in Maracay is up and running.  Please go to www.maracaymessenger.com to find out more about this city and our ministry here.  Thank you again for your prayers.

Always, JAN
